Who
is afraid of Schrodinger's cat? First
of all, let me say what the question means. Actually this is the name
of a quantum physics book I read some time back. I liked the name so much
that I could not help but plagiarise. Anyway, let us see what is this
Shcrodinger's cat all about. Schrodinger was a theoretical physicist.
Now, theoretical physicists are basically people who sit in their armchairs
smoking pipes or cigars all day long doing nothing. They are not like
your typical scientist one tends to imagine - conducting experiments with
hi-tech instruments. Instead, these guys just sit there and wonder about
things. They then postulate their theories and what is more they prove
them mathematically.

"For the greatest fool may ask more than the wisest man can answer" The first reaction to this statement is usually a feeling of contempt for the fool and a feeling of pity / helplessness for the limited extent of the wise man's (our own?) knowledge. Let us call the "greatest fool being referred to here" as Mr. F and the "wisest man being referred to here" as Mr. W. No doubt, we have immense respect for Mr. W, but let us not forget that one important aspect of Mr. F is credit-worthy here and that is his curiosity. The fact that Mr. F is ready to ask questions for which we have no answers, might irritate and frustrate us but it also gives us new questions to answer. In fact it is Mr.F who leads us to the circumference of ignorance. Let us not underestimate this aspect. Read On... Beyond the three dimensions Ask anyone today "Who was Einstein?" and you would get a reply probably on the tracks of "He was a great German-Jew scientist". Ask them "What was so great about him" and the chances are you won't here anything more than "E = mc2" or "The theory of relativity". How many of us really know what was it that Einstein really did? What was so great about him that he was given the title of "Person of the Century"? Have Einstein's thoughts / work affected our lives more than the work of Charles Babbage (the father of computers) or that of Shockley (father of modern electronics). We will see. Read On... Time travel : Einstein disproves himself… Einstien did not believe in time-travel. His basic reasoning was that time-travel requires that we travel faster than light and that, according to him, was impossible. Before we do anything else, let us define time-travel. The problem with defining time travel is that we cannot describe it using absolute time. Remember according to Einstien, Time is relative too : My time is different from your time. Read On... The Holographic Universe (This article has not been written by me. I do not however know who the author is. My regards to him. Does Objective Reality Exist, or is the Universe a Phantasm? In 1982 a remarkable event took place. At the University of Paris, a research team led by physicist Alain Aspect performed what may turn out to be one of the most important experiments of the 20th century. You did not hear about it on the evening news. In fact, unless you are in the habit of reading scientific journals you probably have never even heard Aspect's name, though there are some who believe his discovery may change the face of science.
